Friedrich Platz schlägt in diesem Buch einen neuen Weg ein: Er betrachtet ein Konzert als einen auf Persuasion ausgerichteten audiovisuellen Interaktionsvorgang zwischen Interpreten und Publikum. Der Interpret versucht somit bereits mit dem Bühnenauftritt, noch vor dem ersten gespielten Ton, eine Einstellungsänderung des Publikums zu erzielen. Mit diesem Ansatz untersucht Platz, welchen Einfluss die visuelle Eindruckskomponente hat, welche Merkmale des Interpreten die Grundlage zur ersten Eindrucksbildung darstellen und wie stark der Zusammenhang zwischen dem ersten Eindruck und der weiteren Performance-Bewertung ist. Seine Ergebnisse legen die Annahme eines Modells der musikbezogenen Performance-Elaboration als neuen Erklärungsansatz für das Bewertungsverhalten des Konzertpublikums nahe, das einen weit höheren Erklärungswert besitzt als bisherige musikpsychologische Modelle.
